40 DAYS OF PRAYERS TOWARDS CHRISTMAS - Day 6 : Prayer for CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD
By James.B On Nov 19, 2014
Prayer Topic: CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD
"Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him". (Psalm 127:3)
On November 20, many countries of the world observe "Universal Children's Day" to mark that every child has the right to survive and thrive, to be educated, to be free from violence and abuse, to participate and to be heard. The date November 20, marks the day on which the Assembly of United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in 1989.
"It is fitting that we celebrate a quarter century of the Convention. But we must do more than celebrate. We must recommit ourselves to advancing the rights of every child, especially those who have been left behind -- those who have the least and need us the most. We cannot say that the rights of all children are fulfilled when, despite our progress, some 6.6 million children under 5 years of age died in 2012, mostly from preventable causes; when 168 million children aged 5 to 17 were engaged in child labor in 2012; when 11 per cent of girls are married before they turn 15. Together, let us stand up for the rights of children everywhere, for a more just and equitable world, and for a brighter future for all. (General Secretary of UN, Ban Ki-moon)
Loving God, you have blessed this world with many precious children. Beautiful, unique and pure souls, which are our hope for the future. Many of them however face poverty, violence, abuse and cruelty in their everyday lives. Let us not be ignorant towards this, but let us put our faith into actions to end this. Jesus taught us to welcome children and learn from them. May we use our imagination to put ourselves in children's shoes and learn to teach and guide them with wisdom, gentleness and understanding. Let us treat each child as we would treat the Christ child. Amen
Loving Lord, As Mary nurtured her son Jesus at each stage of life with wisdom and respect, may we too meet each new challenge of parenting with faith and respond with kindness and understanding. Help us to promote true meaning of discipline and create in us a sense of universal responsibility towards all children so that in our work and daily life, we may follow the example of Jesus who listened to children and gave them status and respect. And may we see your likeness in every child. Amen
