Can Eating Healthy Become an Idol?

By CP Blogs - Christian Post On April 7, 2013

Have you ever turned something good into an idol? I have.

I came across an article that reminds me of my past. When I was in college, I struggled with eco-guilt. I was a committed environmentalist and would feel guilty if something didn't get recycled.

Writer Lindsey Carlson has a similar struggle. She has felt guilty when not eating healthy.

Carlson writes:

Have you ever thought that as you’re eating pesticide-free, chemical-free, dye-free, calorie-free, fat-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, or carb-free, you may also be eating Jesus-free?

I can nail my calorie intake day in and day out, exercise three to five times a week, and keep of food journal and still be more in bondage than ever before.

Carlson sees victory over this bad habit:

Slaying my inner Health-Food Heretic isn’t an overnight accomplishment. It will take time, prayer, surrender, and dependence.

There are plenty of Bible verses about overcoming guilt. Counsel Care Connection has compiled a list of Bible verses about overcoming guilt.

One such verse is I John 1:9 NIV which says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
