If I Got A Big Enough Telescope, Could I See Heaven? - Billy Graham's Answer
If I got a big enough telescope, could I see heaven? My mother said to ask you this, because she wasn't sure of the answer. I am 9 years old. - C.McL.
Billy Graham's Answer (July 11)
You can't see Heaven, but you can go there.
Thank you for your letter. Telescopes certainly help us realize how vast and beautiful the universe is, and we should be grateful for this. They certainly help us appreciate the Psalmist's words: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands" (Psalm 19:1).
But even the strongest telescope won't enable us to see heaven -- because heaven isn't just off in some corner of the universe. The Bible doesn't answer all our questions about Heaven, but it does indicate that Heaven is of a different order from our world or our universe. Some Bible scholars even suggest Heaven is in a completely different dimension from what we now experience.
Heaven is far more glorious and wonderful than anything you and I will ever see on earth. Not only will it be a place of indescribable beauty, but it will be a place of absolute peace and freedom from pain and fear. The reason is because heaven is the dwelling place of God. The Bible says, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them" (Revelation 21:3).
The most important fact about heaven, however, is this: You can go there! Only one thing will keep us out of heaven, and that is our sin. But by His death and resurrection Jesus Christ conquered sin and opened Heaven's door for us. By a simple prayer of faith ask Jesus to take away your sins and come into your life. When you do, you will become part of God's family -- both now, and forever.
