"Cal, you've worn that WWJD bracelet for years and years, haven't you?" Avery asked her older brother, eyeing his bracelet with distaste.

"Igot it the first year I went to camp," Cal replied. "It used to be purple and blue, and What Would Jesus Do?' was spelled out in white letters."
"Well, if Jesus had it, I think he'd take it off," Avery said. "You know the whole WWJD trend is pretty much over now. Mom said when she was a kid, they used to see those letters on all kinds of stuff. But you don't see them much anymore--if ever."
"I guess that's true," acknowledged Cal, "but wearing this has helped me. I mean . . . sometimes just when I was getting ready to do something wrong, and I'd see the bracelet and think, No, Jesus wouldn't do that.'"
"That's good, but times change," said Avery, "and I think it's time to get rid of that old thing."
Cal frowned. "Grandma says she feels sad to see so many things change," he said. "I think I agree with her--especially when it's good things that are changing. And those letters were a good reminder to do the right thing. But . . ." He grinned at his sister as he pulled off the old, faded bracelet. "There! Does that made you feel better?" asked Cal, holding out his wrist.
"Yes. Only . . ." Avery hesitated. "If it helped you so much, maybe you should keep wearing it after all."
"I really don't need to wear it anymore," Cal assured her. "I've worn it so long and seen those letters so often that I'm sure I'll always think about what Jesus would do."
"Think so?" asked Avery. She laughed. "Well, if you don't and if you start misbehaving with it off, don't blame me!"
Cal smiled. "I won't, because . . . well, in a way, I have something better to wear now. When I accepted Jesus as my Savior, I was born again--it's like I'm a new person. Pastor Tim talked about the Bible verse that says to put on the new man,' remember? He said that refers to living in a way that pleases Jesus."
Avery nodded. "You're right," she agreed. "The new man' is better than the old bracelet!"
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you ever seen the slogan WWJD, meaning What Would Jesus Do? Those letters were often found on bumper stickers, cups, decals, necklaces, and especially on bracelets. Like all trends, that one has faded away, though you may still occasionally see one. However, doing what Jesus would do should not be a trend. A Christian's lifestyle should be to daily "wear" characteristics God desires to see in His children.
