Why There Is a Persistent Education Gap?

Recently I wrote a column recounting the extraordinary positive influence of one angel from heaven – who happened to be my 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Ethel Smith. Through her coaching, inspiration and influence, in 18 months I rose from being the school dummy, four years behind on all the scales of a standardized test, to being a straight-A honor student. She made learning fun, and these first-time school successes were powerful rewards for me.

Healthy Childhood Sexual Development. Let's Learn It.

The healthy development of our children is something we all desire. That which begins in the womb as a result of our love and affection, possesses gender, personality, and inestimable value. As parents, we, too, are in ongoing development, learning to cooperate with God's design for the family. We can do this more effectively if we have an overall plan. Even more, we need to begin with the end in mind – what do we want for our children, and why? This four-part series is designed to help you c

"Should Christians homeschool their children?"

The question of whether Christians should home school their children is one that many families wrestle with. The Bible tells us that children are a gift from the Lord, specially created for His pleasure and divine purpose (Psalm 127:3-5; 139:13-16). God has entrusted us with our children for a very short time, during which parents have the responsibility of training, instructing, nurturing, and disciplining them, as well as overseeing their education (Ephesians 6:4).

Children and the Bible - Staying motivated

Usually we have no problem remembering to eat because we have a built-in appetite that is difficult to ignore. Why then is it that we don't crave our spiritual food in the same way? (See 1 Peter 2:2-3, Psalm 119:103).

If Jesus is God, how could he die? If Jesus died on the cross, then how can he be alive today?

His body really did die. The Roman soldiers made sure of that. They were experts at killing people. Jesus Christ's physical body was 100-percent human, not just part human. Our bodies can die, and so could his. When we die, our physical body dies, but our soul and spirit remain. They are eternal; they never die. The same is true of Jesus Christ. His physical body died, but his inner self is eternal and did not die.

A Child’s Way of Learning

For most of us, our first memories begin at about the age of five. Think about your earliest memories. Arent' they happy events, maybe with siblings and parents playing a silly game or camping in the backyard?

Funny Job Requirements for Children’s Ministry

There was a funny thread on the forums at CM Connect and I thought I would share some of it here. For the whole scoop, check out this comment thread on their site. Basically, they wanted to come up with some funny “job requirements” for children’s ministry. Here are a few of my favorites, feel free to come up with your own:

Why Do I Homeschool?

If you had told me seven years ago, I would be teaching my children at home…I’m pretty sure I would’ve laughed in your face. I attended public school as a child. My college experience included earning a degree in Elementary Education. I taught in several schools before the girls came along. School was my life.

Where Should My Child Go to School?

My oldest child just turned five, which means he will be starting kindergarten in just a few short months. After wondering where on earth the time has gone, my immediate reaction then becomes a little bit of panic regarding the school situation: Where should my child go to school?

How To Handle Kids- Maintaining focus, control and discipline

Kids are characteristically boisterous and noisy. They have lots of energy and love to have fun. Be careful not to suppress that spirit within them; rather channel their enthusiasm toward the things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy!

Bless Your Feet (4 part series) – Part 1

Why Feet? Why would I do a four part series on feet? Am I some kind of sick, twisted housewife with a foot-fetish? No. Although, while researching this topic, I ran into more information than I ever wanted to know about those who are! The internet can be a scary place.
