Help California’s Orphans And Troubled Youth

By Janey DeMeo Special to ASSIST News Service - Crossmap On September 11, 2013

VISTA, CA (ANS) -- One-thousand children and youth in California will face another sad day without parents, feeling as if they don't belong to anyone. Some 1,000 adoptable children in California's foster system still wait (and hope) to be adopted and become part of a forever family-to belong permanently to a family who will love them.

Compared to California's immense population, this number doesn't sound like much. But given that there are more than 20,000 churches in California-including many mega churches-the statistic is alarming. God's people are called to care for orphans. Not that all are called to adopt or become foster parents but, to quote the Sleep Train® Mattress Centers motto, "Not everyone can be a foster parent, but anyone can help a foster child" (www.sleeptrain.com/local-foster-kids.aspx).

One church has taken that motto to heart. Yes, that would be Saddleback Church (http://saddleback.com). This coming Saturday, September 14th from 10am - 2pm Saddleback Church will host Wait No More: Finding Families for California's Waiting Kids-a growing movement launched by Focus-on-the-Family to help solve America's orphan crisis.

Wait No More conference attendees will learn about children and youth waiting for a forever family. They will discover how adoption and foster care work - what they involve - and they will acquire information on how to support adoptive families. Agencies and county representatives will share and be available to answer questions. In short, this is theconference to attend if you care for local orphans.

God has given clear commands for Christians to take care for orphan children. The Wait No Moreconference provides ways to do just that in accordance with each individual's capacity and means. So, let's not wait to be part of Wait No More.

Find out more about Wait No More here: http://icareaboutorphans.org/california . Watch the video here: https://vimeo.com/74061266 .

For those specifically interested in helping local troubled youth-whether in the foster system or otherwise-another conference is also taking place simultaneously on Saturday September 14th from 9am - 11am at North Coast Church, Vista. Hosted by ROCC - Reaching Orphans & Children-in-Crisis (www.facebook.com/ROCCNCC ). Tony Massa from Julian Oaks will speak about how to help troubled youth in big and small ways. (For more info, contact Janey@orphansfirst.org .)

These conferences are free. Spread the word and choose what works for you and learn how you can help local children in need. Let's not wait to become part of the solution.
