By Boaz Wadel
The world's most visited online Bible search engine, Bible Gateway (BibleGateway.com; @BibleGateway), is this year's winner of the internationally-acclaimed Christian New Media Awards' (CNMA) Christian Mobile/Tablet App of the Year for the Bible Gateway App.
The award, given during CNMA's annual conference in London Nov. 9, 2013, recognizes a Christian individual, project, or organization that has produced the most useful and effective mobile/tablet app during the year. More than 900 entries vied in 15 award categories, from which 15 winners and runners-up were named.
"We're thrilled and humbled to receive this global award for our free Bible Gateway App," says Rachel Barach, general manager, Bible Gateway. "It acknowledges our hard work and missional aim to provide an engaging Bible experience for the millions of mobile users who have access to it."
The Bible Gateway App (@BibleGatewayApp) includes the complete text and audio of multiple bestselling Bible versions in more than 80 languages, Bible reading plans, Bible commentaries and dictionaries, the ability to highlight and take notes, and share content with social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
Barach was a keynote speaker during the London conference. Her topic was "Reimagining the Word," describing how the church and the message of Christ have been impacted -- both positively and negatively -- by digital communications and social media.
