As early November of last year, the creator of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto announced the spinoff. The Naruto spinoff titled, "The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring" was announced before the main series ended.
The new series focuses on the new generation of ninjas, with Naruto and Hinata's son, Bolt or "Boruto" as the main protagonist. Other characters in the series are Naruto and Hinata's daughter "Himawari" meaning 'sunflower' in Japanese and "Sarada" or 'Salad'; Sakura and Sasuke's daughter.
Fans have been speculating that Boruto will most likely be similar to his father as a child, which is innocent but mischievous. Like in the previous Naruto series, fans would most likely see Boruto grow and develop into a true ninja.
Weekly Shonen Jump has released character designs for Boruto, Sarada and an older Naruto.
Though Kishimoto did not confirm the projected number of books of the Naruto spinoff, it is widely speculated that it will be a lot shorter than its predecessors 'Naruto' and 'Naruto Shippuden.'
Kishimoto has been planning a grand "Naruto Shin Jidai Kaimaku Project" (Naruto's New Era Opening Project) and the Naruto spinoff is just one of his many plans for the said project. A full-length animated movie titled "The Last: Naruto The Movie" was released last December 2014. Another film, "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" is scheduled to be released on August 7, 2015.
Masashi Kishimoto has also announced that he has a new series planned after completing the Naruto franchise, and asked his fans to look forward to it. He also stated that he will not begin the new project until after the Naruto Project has been completed. He also jokingly asked his fans for patience and forgiveness if he will not able to create a weekly serialized manga for his next title. The creator has also expressed his desire to spend more time with his family saying that like the main character in his famous series, Naruto, he has come to treasure his own family.
