Award-winning Christian Author Cheats Death and Lives to Release Western Historical Romance

By James.B

HOPELAND, PA (ANS-- April 18, 2015) - Back in 2011 Peter Leavell didn't know if he'd live to write another word let alone win the Jerry Jenkins Writers Guild Operation First Novel contest and later publish his sophomore book "West for the Black Hills."

Nearly bed-ridden, the verse "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5) became his lifeline.

Peter LeavellAccording to a news release, after a multitude of tests doctors discovered Peter's body had stopped making testosterone, a treatable condition. He wasn't going to die.  Today Peter is strong and back to doing what he loves best -- writing about history.

His just-released western historical novel "West for the Black Hills" has been endorsed by prolific historical romance author Tracie Peterson and received high marks in Publishers Weekly and RT Book Reviews.

"Reading a novel penned by me means one thing," Peter says. "History. I've spent my life researching it. Philip Anderson, the lead in 'West for the Black Hills,' is a character I created when I read the diary of a young man who wanted to raise horses in the Dakota Territory. He was told he wouldn't make a go of it and became a cowpoke instead. Philip decided not to listen and make his dreams come true."

In the story, Philip Anderson keeps his past close to the vest. Not many people in Mitchell, a small town in the Dakota Territory, would understand him living with the Sioux Indians who rescued him as a boy.

Haunted by the murder of his parents as they traveled West in their covered wagon, he knows it wasn't Indians who killed them, and his many unanswered questions about that night still torment him. His only desire is to live quietly on his homestead and raise Arabian horses.

Until he meets Anna, a beautiful young woman with secrets of her own. Is it his eerie and unusual wolf eyes that draw Anna to him? Falling in love was not part of his plan. Can Philip open his heart and tell her how he feels before it's too late?

With Anna a pawn in the corrupt schemes brewing in Mitchell, Philip is forced to become a reluctant gunslinger even as his inner battle gets in the way. Will Philip's uncannily trained horses and unsurpassed sharpshooting skills help him free Anna and find out what really happened to his family out there in the
wilderness?
