Mark Finnigan:20 Seconds of Insane Courage

By Boaz Wadel

Over the past 10 years of serving on staff here at Harvest Crusades, I have been involved with many Harvest events across the US. I have heard countless testimonies of Christians inviting people to a Harvest event and then seeing them respond to a gospel presentation by Pastor Greg Laurie.

I have noticed that many of the stories have something in common with a quote from the movie We Bought a Zoo. In the movie, the main character, Benjamin Mee, says, "What you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it."

I have heard from and personally witnessed individuals, just like you, taking 20 seconds of insane courage to open their mouth and invite coworkers, family members, baristas, store clerks, neighbors, etc., to come with them to a Harvest event, and they accepted the invitation. As a matter of fact, in 1994 my coworker invited me, along with my live-in girlfriend, to come to a Harvest event. Long story short: we went, got saved, then got married a week later, and we've both been walking with Christ for the past 19 years. I thank that coworker for having 20 seconds of courage!

Will you take 20 seconds to invite someone to a Harvest America location near you? You may think, "Will inviting someone I barely know, like the woman who serves me coffee, really make a difference?" Listen, you don't know what the Holy Spirit is doing behind the scenes. I have invited people before and heard them say, "It's funny you mention that; my family member just invited me to this event the other day." Or I've heard them say, "This is the second time today I've been invited by someone."

Esther showed courage to stand before a king for such a time as this. David showed courage to stand before a giant.

Will you take 20 seconds of courage to stand before someone today to invite them to come with you to Harvest America? Then take another 20 seconds and pray for them. Trust me; something great can come from it!

Invite everyone, but bring someone!
