Porn Makes Me Compare My Wife to Porn Stars, About Having Eyes Only for Your Spouse

By Jocelyn Hu

It's not fair.

Sometimes life is not fair and at times it can be our own fault.

Not growing up in a Christian home, I remember a relative telling me when I was young once you seen one pair of breasts, you want to see them all.  Guys, let's admit it most of us are visually stimulated and paying the price for our sins can be our wives.

If we close our eyes we can compare all the women we have seen online. This is something that is just not fair to our wives. It's a battle we fight with our minds. It's a battle a guy named David lost.  2 Samuel 11:2-4...

"One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite."  Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her."

He was amazed at what he saw and wanted her.  Often at times we want what we can't have and take our wives for granted.

The person you look at when looking at porn is not your wife.  It is not the person God intended for you to be with. David acted on this and soon paid the price. Go ahead and look what happened to David as a result (Spoiler: It doesn't get better).

I have prayed and wished the people I have looked at online went away.  Those are not the images I want in my head.  The problem is getting worse across the country.  There are more and more psychologist that are meeting with people because of Porn Induced Sexual Dysfunction.  The people they see in real life can't compare with the people they see online and can't perform sexually as a result.

God intended us to be attracted to our spouses, it goes more than looks.  Love is just more than what you look like.  Marriage and love is emotional, is sacrifice, is serving one another.  Porn can paint a false idea of what marriage and our spouse looks like.

When I first went to get help for my problem with porn, I was told a simple prayer to say...

"Lord, give me eyes for only my wife."

There are times when my mind deceives me, but this prayer can help align me.

We can still mess up, we can still be a work in progress, I hope and pray we head in the right direction.

God intended for us to be attracted to our spouses, what are ways you can focuses more on your spouse and less on what you remember from what you see online?
