Thanksgiving Dinner Thankful for Accountability

By Jocelyn Hu

It's that time of year again... the time where everyone gathers to eat delicious foods and go around the table to say what they're thankful for--family, friends, good job, new baby on the way--but for most, the word "accountability" will probably not get mentioned at Thanksgiving dinner. Not only because porn addiction and recovery is still a taboo conversation piece, but also because "accountability" is such a misunderstood and under-appreciated tool that most people either have a bad taste in their mouth about it or they just don't get it.

Most people do not stand up at Thanksgiving dinner and say, "I'm thankful for accountability!"
Well, I am.

Really, I am!

Accountability is a blessing from God. It is so much more than just sitting with a friend and hesitantly answering a bunch a questions from a list--it's about being open and real with someone about your struggles; about being vulnerable and allowing another human being to be a part of your life in such a way that is life-altering.

Someone who knows your darkest struggles and helps you stay on track is a real life hero in my book. Someone you can call, text, email, or stop by 24/7 and say "I NEED YOU TO PRAY," and know without a doubt they will. For that I am truly thankful.

I'm thankful for my husband, who knows my struggles and I know his.

I'm thankful that we have open communication with each other.

I'm thankful for my best friend Stephanie, who is always ready to help steer me in the right direction when I am angry or hurting.

I'm thankful for my friend K.D., who's been through sexual betrayal and has found great healing as well. She knows where I've been and where I want to be, and is always ready to help me and pray for us.

God has blessed me with an amazing accountability team and I am so thankful for accountability;recovery and healing would be impossible without it.

You'll be thankful.
