PlayStation 5 [PS5] Release Date and Specs: PS5 Won't be Happening Because of PlayStation Neo?
PlayStation has been around since 1994 and the console's popularity is just growing year after year; that's why it is a wonder why there are rumors that 'PlayStation 5' is not going to happen. What's the truth behind this?
Currently, there are a number of consoles coming out of Sony Entertainment. There's the PlayStation NEO aka PlayStation 4.5, then there's PlayStation VR. Actually, it seems that PlayStation Neo was necessary because of PlayStation VR. However since the announcement of 'PlayStation Neo' many believed that 'PlayStation 5' is not going to happen.
Previously, Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony Worldwide Studios) hinted of the upcoming 'PlayStation 5' with Recode during the last 'Revolutionaries' in Mountain View California for the Computer History Museum.
The president himself mentioned 'PlayStation 5';
"It is really up to the game creators, if they still feel that we need more machine power - 'We want to realize this and that and that, but we cannot do it with PS4' - if that is the case, there is a good reason to have PS5. So that developers can create their vision. So, we will see."
But then recently, Shuhei also mentioned that he is not sure as to whether 'PlayStation 5' is happening.
Previously, Andrew House's (Sony Interactive President) confirmed the upcoming 'PlayStation Neo' with Financial Times. Aside from these, 'PlayStation VR' is also confirmed and is set to be released this coming October 13, 2016.
Because of these upcoming consoles, many believe that 'PlayStation 5' won't be happening. But that is still to say if both 'PlayStation VR' and 'PlayStation Neo' will actually fair well in the market.
The VR technology is pretty new, and there are many complaints about experiencing nausea whilst on VR. Whilst VR and AR seem to be the future of consoles, it is still too early to say that non-VR consoles are not happening in the future. At the end of the day, there are still a lot of refinements that has to be done to VR technology.
