Ratchet & Clank Latest Updates and Reviews: Game Developers Explained the Latest Changes in Ratchet & Clank and Its Connection with Ratchet & Clank the Movie

By Jeff Villanueva

Another latest game for PlayStation 4 intended for release next year, Ratchet & Clank was introduced during last year's edition of Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). And though it was based from the original aspect of prior Ratchet & Clank games, game developers promised that the remake will take us to whole new different ballgame.

Road Leading to the New 'Ratchet & Clank' Video Game Development

In an interview with Polygon, Game Director Shaun McCabe of Insomniac Games said that, "Ratchet and Clank is a new game that takes elements from the original," adding that, "what we imagined when we started was a curated first Ratchet experience."

Despite the idea of taking elements from game, "What we ended up with was a new game and what we think is a new beginning for Ratchet and Clank," McCabe claimed.

As McCabe shared their studio's vision, "We wanted to provide people with the opportunity to play a feature animated film. We wanted to be able to match the fidelity and sophistication of an animated film visually."

For those still confused, there are two future releases of Ratchet and Clank - a movie and a video game, and McCabe hinted that the video game has "the same bones" as the film but has even more as the game progresses.

Ratchet & Clank Game Play

"More than half of the weapons in this game were not in the PlayStation 2 Ratchet and Clank," hinted Insomniac community lead James Stevenson adding that, "they're either new weapons or weapons from the movie or weapons from the Future series."

And they are easier to use now explained Stevenson, "The original Ratchet and Clank was not modern. You couldn't aim. You couldn't strafe. We did not want to just remake Ratchet and Clank. This was about creating a whole new beginning, the ultimate beginning."

But Stevenson, though suggesting of possible sequels to come, said that the main characters as well as the game's antagonist will remain the same, "The rough outline is still the same. Ratchet meets Clank, and they go on this adventure, and Chairman Drek is still the bad guy. It just gives people a new entry point, and the film also acts as a new entry point for the series. They really complement each other. We're so focused on this part of it, but I'm not too worried about what happens next."

"There probably will always be more Ratchet adventures down the line," said Stevenson.

Ratchet & Clank is intended for PlayStation 4 and will be released Spring of 2016.
