The Year of the Reformation Officially started in Russia
On March 22, the official opening of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in Russia took place in the President Hotel in Moscow. The celebration of the anniversary served as an impetus for the mutual cooperation of Protestant churches with other religious denominations and public institutions, Christian Telegraph reports according to the Christian Megaportal invictory.com.
Representatives of the Christian Churches of Russia, the government, the diplomatic corps and the International Union of German Culture took part in the opening ceremony.
In a welcoming speech, the Commissioner of the Federal Government of Germany for Migrants and National Minorities, Hartmut Koshik, noted the connection between Russia and Germany through the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation of Martin Luther.
The Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International and Cultural Cooperation, Mikhail Shvydkoi, noted that the ideas of the Reformation were reflected in the most diverse types of art: painting, sculpture, music and cinematography. The German Extraordinary and PlenipotentiaryAmbassador to Russia, Rüdiger von Fritsch, quoted Martin Luther saying that Christ is a completely free lord of everything, and is not subject to anyone, but is subject to his conscience and the Holy Scripture. The ambassador stressed that the Reformation will never end, it develops civil society and proclaims freedom of conscience.
The opening of the Reformation Year marked the launch of a large number of religious, cultural and educational events in Russia, in which the International Union of German Culture will also take part.
